HEAT ALERT: LOS ANGELES COUNTY
OPENS COOLING CENTERS
LOS ANGELES COUNTY – To provide relief from the heat for the elderly and others who face heat-related health difficulties and stress, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health will open cooling centers throughout Los Angeles County, announced Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
An interactive map with the location and times of operation of the cooling stations in Los Angeles County can be found here: www.goo.gl/ZDQER
The Department of Public Health recommends several ways to manage the heat:
ü Never leave children, elderly people, or pets alone in a parked vehicle.
ü Wear light, loose fitting clothing to stay cool
ü Drink water often. Avoid drinking alcohol.
ü Check on those in your neighborhood who have limited mobility.
ü Stay in an air-conditioned area during peak heat hours i.e. a mall, park, or library.
ü Avoid unnecessary sun exposure. When in the sun, wear a hat with a wide brim.
ü Don’t exercise vigorously outside during the hottest hours of the day.
