LOS ANGELES COUNTY – An amendment by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, unanimously approved by the Board of Supervisors, calls upon the State Legislature to provide residential rehabilitative treatment services for victims of child sex trafficking.
“The sexual exploitation of children and the criminal elements involved are a direct result of broken families and a meltdown in morality,” said Supervisor Antonovich, who initiated the Los Angeles County Child Sex Trafficking Task Force late last year. “It is vital that the young victims are provided with the support and services to lead healthy and fulfilling lives – without these factors, the pimps will continue to force their young victims into prostitution.”
The average age of entry into prostitution is 12 years old — with some as young as 9 — and the average life expectancy following entry is 10 years.
