LOS ANGELES COUNTY — The Board of Supervisors approved a $1.8 million allocation for the refurbishment of the library and Ayres Hall at the Los Angeles County Arboretum
and Botanic Garden, announced Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
Refurbishments at the Arboretum Library include improved disabled access throughout the building, replacement of the fire alarm system, upgraded insulation levels and a seismic code-compliant shelving system. The library will remain open during construction.
Ayres Hall, the Arboretum’s primary exhibition hall and large indoor meeting/events space, will receive upgrades in its heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, as well repairs to the kitchen, roof, siding, doors and entry path in compliance with health, safety, and state and federal accessibility codes.
To comply with the Board of Supervisors’ Green Building/Sustainable Design Program, plans include higher-efficiency HVAC systems, natural lighting, LED fixtures and thermal insulation.
Improvements are expected to begin in January 2014 and be completed approximately one year later.
