Five county parks, including the Castaic Sports Complex, are expected to get a little more shade by 2015 after county supervisors approved funding for shade structures on Tuesday.
Supervisors authorized the Director of Parks and Recreation to implement a project calling for new playground equipment and a shade structure at Castaic Sports Complex, as well as shade structures for four other parks.
“Helping families take shelter from the sun when visiting their local county park, $815,000 was approved for construction of shade structures at five North County park facilities,” Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich said in a news release issued after Tuesday’s session.
Other parks receiving shade structures include: Jackie Robinson Park in Littlerock, Pearblossom Park in Pearblossom, George Lane Park in Quartz Hill and Stephen Sorensen Park in Lake Los Angeles.
Today’s approval enables the Department of Parks and Recreation to proceed with a competitive solicitation process, through which contractors will be invited to submit bids for performing the work.
