Two convicted sex offenders charged with raping and murdering at least four women in Orange County, pleaded not guilty in a Santa Ana courtroom on May 19. Both suspects were wearing GPS ankle monitors while committing these heinous crimes.
“Wearing ankle bracelets could not prevent these criminals from hunting their victims, raping and killing them – one found on a conveyor belt in a garbage facility,” said Supervisor Antonovich. “This illustrates the fact that ankle bracelets and GPS monitoring do not prevent crime,” he added. “While it is heralded by the ACLU and others as a suitable alternative to incarceration — it is not.”
It was also reported that the men had previously cut off their electronic monitoring devices and fled to Nevada before they were rearrested in 2012 and placed on federal probation.
A parole agent familiar with the case said that the devices create, “a false sense of security.”
