LOS ANGELES COUNTY — Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich recognized Richard Price, retired Fire Chief with the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District and founder of PulsePoint. The first mobile app that allows users trained in CPR to receive alerts on their mobile devices whenever someone in their area has suffered a cardiac arrest.
Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for an estimated 352,000 deaths each year, nearly one-thousand people a day, or one person every two minutes.
Delivery of CPR is life-saving first aid and can sustain life until paramedics arrive by helping to maintain vital blood flow to the heart and brain. Without oxygen, permanent brain damage or death can occur in less than eight-minutes and after ten-minutes there is little chance of successful resuscitation.
PulsePoint plays a vital role in reducing the number of deaths by reducing the time between the first contact and arrival of first responders.
