On a motion by Mayor Michael D. Antonovich, who was recently appointed to the LA Care Board of Governors, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to conduct an audit of LA Care. LA Care is a nonprofit health plan that administers more than $4 billion in public funds and was created to manage health care and Medi-Cal health care coverage for millions of Los Angeles County residents.
State law requires that the County Auditor-Controller conduct annual financial audits of the organization — however, no audits have been conducted since its inception in 1994.
“With more than $4 billion in public funds administered by LA Care last year, and the number of clients it serves, these long-overdue audits are necessary to ensure proper expenditures of taxpayer dollars,” Antonovich said.
The Auditor-Controller will to report back to the Board on a plan of how to conduct the required annual audits.
