Mayor Michael D. Antonovich cast the lone “no” vote on a Board of Supervisors motion to develop an implementation plan for President Obama’s Executive Order which would allow illegal immigrants to receive multiple benefits including, social security numbers, work permits and welfare.
“Legal immigration is a vital component of American life, both culturally and economically. However, the President’s Executive Order to grant benefits to individuals here illegally, was ruled unlawful by a Federal Court. It is premature for the County to move forward with developing an implementation plan when the Executive Order in question has been deemed unconstitutional,” said Mayor Antonovich.
The ruling by the Federal Court, which questions the President’s legal authority, was in response to an injunctive relief filed by a bipartisan group of 26 states led by their governors or attorneys general.
