LOS ANGELES COUNTY – Mayor Michael D. Antonovich issued the following statement on the proposed county budget for 2015-16.
“The CEO’s recommended budget reflects the Board’s priorities — public safety, child protection and coordination of mental health services,” he said. “Interim Chief Executive Officer Sachi Hamai and her team did superb work developing the county budget. Sachi’s leadership has resulted in a management structure that emphasizes efficiency and an honest, common sense approach to decision-making at all levels within the CEO organization, the Board of Supervisors and county departments. The 2015-16 recommended budget is only the third budget since the recession began where revenues have stabilized, but we still face several fiscal challenges with state and federal unfunded mandates.”
“This is also the first budget where the county has had a significant change in leadership,” Antonovich added. “Some of the challenges the County must address in the upcoming fiscal year include; the implementation of Obamacare; unfunded state mandates; construction of a new jail; recruiting 524 sheriff’s deputies; recruiting 444 social workers; hiring additional probation officers for AB 109 realignment; and replacing deteriorating county facilities.”
