Dennis Anderson, editor of the Antelope Valley Press was honored for his 45-year career in journalism. Dennis has had two careers. The first was Armor Cavalry Paratrooper in the Cold War on the East German Border. The second was working writer, newspaper reporter, global news wire services, newspaper editor and author. He has worked at two newspapers – the Simi Valley Enterprise and the Antelope Valley Press.
He has worked at two major wire services, United Press International in Washington D.C. and the Associated Press in Los Angeles. Mr. Anderson served during the Cold War and Vietnam War Era with the 3rd Squadron, 8th U.S. Cavalry, part of the 8th Infantry Division (Airborne).
He was the first newspaper editor to embed, traveling with the Antelope Valley-based unit of the California National Guard in the first phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and returning in 2004. In 2004, he was awarded “Journalist of The Year” honors by American Press Institute and Suburban Newspapers of America for his on-the-ground coverage of California National Guard in the Iraq War
