Justice Norvell “Fred” Woods was recognized for his 31 years of service on the bench. Prior to his appointment to the bench Justice Woods served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy.
Justice Woods was appointed by Governor George Deukmejian to the Los Angeles Superior Court in 1984. Before his appointment, he was in private practice in Long Beach for 20 years as a senior partner, sole practitioner, and associate attorney. He also served as a Family Law Mediator and Arbitrator with the Los Angeles County Superior Court. In 1988, Governor George Deukmejian elevated Justice Woods to the Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, where he was reconfirmed three times.
