Mayor Michael D. Antonovich recognized the month of July as National Parks and Recreation Month in Los Angeles County
Strong evidence shows that when people have access to parks, they exercise regularly which reduces their risk of diseases including heart disease, hypertension, colon cancer and diabetes. Beyond the benefits of exercise, a growing body of research shows that contact with the natural world improves physical and psychological health.
Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation maintains, preserves and protects over 177 parks throughout the county, including community and regional parks, nature centers, wildlife sanctuaries and hundreds of miles of recreational trails.
The Department of Parks and Recreation offers opportunities to enrich the quality of life for persons of all ages and abilities.
