To improve safety for school children at Roosevelt Elementary School in the unincorporated area adjacent to San Gabriel, Mayor Michael D. Antonovich has announced the Board of Supervisors has approved construction of a new sidewalk along both sides of Walnut Grove Avenue.
“Enhancing the safe passage of our young students as they make their way to school and home each day is critical,” Mayor Antonovich said. “This project will provide peace of mind to parents who will no longer have to worry that their children are being forced to walk on the road surface.”
The project will also include the relocation of an existing midblock crosswalk and the installation of driver feedback signs to remind northbound and southbound motorists of their speed before reaching the school. The project is being partially funded by the Federal Highway Administration under the Federal Safe Routes to School Program.
