Mayor Michael D. Antonovich announced the Board’s unanimous selection and appointment of Sachi A. Hamai as the County’s Chief Executive Officer.
For the past 10 months, Hamai has served as Interim CEO. Prior to her interim appointment in December 2014, Hamai served for nearly nine years as Executive Officer to the Board of Supervisors.
“Sachi has been an outstanding County leader throughout her career and has excelled as our Interm CEO, rapidly responding to reforms critically needed inside the County and tackling reforms in service to improving the quality of life for our County residents,” said Mayor Antonovich.
As CEO, Hamai is responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of Los Angeles County’s $28 billion budget. The Chief Executive Office also oversees a wide portfolio of operational responsibilities on behalf of the Board of Supervisors. Those include labor relations, legislative advocacy, capital planning, property portfolio management, communications and services to the County’s unincorporated communities. In addition, the CEO currently is overseeing far-reaching social and public policy reforms in the areas of criminal justice, homelessness, health care and child welfare.
Hamai first joined the County in 1988, after her graduation from Colorado State University with a degree in Business Administration.
She first went to work in the Auditor-Controller’s Office, where she held several senior positions that included supervising the operational, compliance and financial reviews of numerous County departments.
In November, 1994, Hamai joined the Department of Health Services Inspection and Audit Team. She was named Director of Administrative Services in 2001, responsible for supervising human resources, information technology, facilities management and audit and compliance offices in the nation’s second-largest public healthcare system.
In 2006, Hamai was appointed as the Board’s Executive Officer, a position in which she oversaw the accounting, procurement, personnel, payroll, technology, facility management and other administrative services of the Board.
