On a motion by Mayor Michael D. Antonovich, the Board of Supervisors will send a five-signature letter to Governor Brown urging his office to use executive authority to direct the California Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources and other State Departments to take immediate action to find a solution to the gas leak at Southern California Gas Company’s Aliso Canyon storage facility.
“To ensure the safety of residents of Porter Ranch and surrounding communities, we are asking the Governor and state agencies to conduct a full investigation into the Gas Company’s efforts to expedite the abatement of this public health threat,” said Antonovich. “Going on 38 days with no certainty as to when the leak will be resolved, many of our residents are suffering with health effects, having to relocate or dealing with lowered property values resulting from this hazard.”
The Board of Supervisors will also send a five-signature letter to the California Public Utilities Commission requesting that the PUC conduct a review to determine if the Gas Company is in full compliance with provisions of a directive ordering an expedited abatement.
