Department of Public Health Issues Immediate Stop Order for Non-compliant House Cleaning in Porter Ranch
Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich announced that the Department of Public Health (DPH) has directed the Gas Company to immediately discontinue housecleaning which fails to meet the court-ordered standard. The Department has also directed the Gas Company to meet with DPH today to correct the deficiencies and ensure strict compliance.
“Once again, the Gas Company has shown downright contempt for the court, Health Department rules and the victims of this disaster,” said Antonovich. “In their hasty effort to save money, they have cut corners and tried to pacify the homeowners with shoddy cleaning protocols which do nothing to alleviate health problems.”
DPH sent its Environmental Health Strike Team out on Sunday morning to review the cleaning process in approximately 10 percent of the homes scheduled for cleaning that day.
They found that the contractor employed by the Gas Co. was neither equipped nor trained for proper cleaning as required by the court-ordered protocol which includes HEPA vacuum cleaners and deep cleaning on soft surfaces. DPH has forbid the work from resuming until the Gas Co. can prove that it can carry out the cleaning in compliance with the protocol.
