The Board of Supervisors recognize the last Sunday in September “Gold Star Mother’s Day” in Los Angeles County. We recognize Gold Star Mother’s Day in honor of mothers whose sons or daughters have died while serving our country in the armed forces.
Since the birth of our nation, over 1.2 million service men and women have died fighting for our freedom. Gold Star Mothers, and their families, continue to serve our community and are a source of support to our troops, veterans, and military families. We are continuously inspired by their resilience and strength.
The Board was joined by Irene Ramirez, a Gold Star Mother who lost her son, Lance Corporal Rogelio Ramirez, while serving in Iraq and Terry Geiling, the President and CEO of the American Gold Star Manor in Long Beach. The American Gold Star Manor was founded in 1975 and provides a national home for members of the American Gold Star Mothers.
