Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich issued the following statement on the passing of former Israeli President Shimon Peres:
“Serving as Israel’s former president, prime minister, foreign minister, defense minister and finance minister, Shimon Peres was a powerful force in the growth and security of the Israeli nation, responsible for building a strong and resolute military defense and securing peace accords which earned him a Nobel Peace Prize.
Over the years, I had the opportunity to meet President Peres many times and found him to be a thoughtful and compassionate leader who cared deeply about the Jewish people and continued to seek peaceful resolution to the challenges faced in the Middle East. I fondly remember our meeting and treasure the picture we took together which hangs in my office.
Christine and I send our condolences and prayers to his family.”
